Cuivre River POTA/WWFF Activation Report
Report on W0MOC's weekend activation of Cuivre River State Park.
On March 7, 2021, six members of the Missouri Outdoor Club descended on the Cuivre River State Park to hike and operate portable radio. Members hiked the North Loop of the Cuivre River Trail which led to a backpack campsite where they set up their gear and attempted to activate the park for multiple programs based around portable park operations. While on site, a number of friends and family joined in the outdoor activities.
Unfortunately, due to a number of issues, such as contests and technical problems, the club was unable to make any contacts. However, members of the club walked away with some valuable knowledge that will be applied to future activations and outings.
A little about Cuivre River State Park:
Cuivre River State Park is one of the state’s largest and most rugged parks!
Cuivre River State Park lends a wilder, Ozarkian flavor to the otherwise predominately agricultural landscape of northern Missouri. Although not far from St. Louis, the park is a nature lover’s paradise. It is an outdoor delight to stroll through the park in the spring when flowering dogwood is in bloom or in the fall when the trees are ablaze with autumn colors.
The park is perfect whether you want to enjoy an afternoon visit or spend a few days. Both primitive and modern campsites are available, and Lake Lincoln offers swimming, boating and fishing. The park’s wild and natural areas provide hiking, backpacking, photography and wildlife observation activities. There is also an equestrian trail with a campground for overnight stays.
